Another successful season concluded as we approach the twelfth uninterrupted year producing genuine opera at an accessible price in South Florida. Making a brief recap of 2015 season the balance is positive realizing four excellent productions that included Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera, La Traviata and Rigoletto, as well as Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and an extraordinary Opera Gala Concert with Soloists Chorus and Orchestra. As a local opera company with limited resources, we feel very proud for the achievements of the past season. In 2015 MLO initiated presenting opera production at the wonderful South Miami Dade’s venue (SMDCAC) bringing the opera closer to the communities located in South Miami and surroundings.

We are focusing on another exciting year with great productions that will include local and International artists as well new talents formed through MLO Young Artist Program. Productions for 2016 includes Donizetti’s famous comedy opera L’elisir d’amore, the Spanish opera Marina by Emilio Arrieta, Puccini’s most acclaimed opera Tosca, Gala Opera Concert, Mascagni’s drama of Cavalleria Rusticana and Puccini’s enchanted yet dramatic Suor Angelica.

Despite some financial tightness, we have been able to advance in our project to create genuine opera productions keeping a great level of respect to composer and libretto. We are convinced that opera must be in accordance with the moment, history and environment of when and how it was conceived. That has been possible thanks to the support of our community, local and state authorities and very importantly your donations. We are constantly looking for new ways to face our commitments knowing that the opera lovers in South Florida will be with us for better cultural opportunities for generations to come.

We enjoy more and more new talents ready to demonstrate their level of quality as opera singers, choristers, actors and instrumental musicians in different operatic duties. We need to give them opportunity to be part of an opera company. MLO has been created for that and so far we are proud of the results. A large list of new artists have been given the chance to appear for the first time in a fully staged opera. Most of them are now performing in many of the major opera houses around the world including the Metropolitan Opera House.
