Our 2011 has proved an outstanding opera season with L’amico Fritz, Rigoletto and L’Elisir D’amore, garnishing rave reviews and public support. L’amico Fritz provided an interesting challenge considering the production was created from scratch for an opera performed for the first time by Miami Lyric Opera (MLO).

We are pleased to announce the 2012 Opera Season together with some exciting news. As of April 2012 MLO will add an additional venue along with the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. MLO will now perform in the historic Olympia Theater at The Gusman Center for the Performing Arts. This Olympia Theater will provide accessibility to the downtown area in addition to providing an enhancement to our productions. The 2012 season will include Puccini’s Tosca and Madama Butterfly, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Rossini’s Barber of Seville inclusive to some Gala Opera Concerts. Productions will be performed in both venues. For 2012 we have invited renowned guest artists such as Soprano’s Daniella Carvalho, Susana Diaz, Jennifer Harris, the Baritone Nelson Martinez, the Tenor Enrique Pina (debut with MLO) the Basses Diego Baner, Alvaro Ramirez, and guest conductors to include Doris Lang Kosloff and Jeffrey Eckstein among many other fine artists.

Despite the state of the national and local economy we remain optimistic in the support of our community. Entering our eighth year as a local Opera company, we have endured many challenges. During our tenure we have presented over 17 different opera titles in over 70 performances. Tens of new talents have benefitted with the opportunity to gain experience and go on to international careers. MLO is proud of the impact it has made for many local artists and the culture of the local community.
