Another successful season concluded as we approach the eleventh uninterrupted year producing genuine opera at an accessible price. Making a brief recap of 2014 season the balance is positive bring forth five different productions for the season, including the reposition of Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Puccini’s La Boheme, Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera (A masked Ball) and Bizet’s Carmen. the latter two in concert version. As a local opera company with limited resources MLO should feel satisfied for its achievement and positive results. On the other hand we observe with sadness how the economic crisis has forced many opera houses and opera companies to close amidst the financial downturn. In a changing world some say that the opera is dying. Personally, I don’t believe in that definition but rather search for new ways to make opera more accessible to a large public including young generations, but genuine in form and approach. We have never enjoyed so many new talents ready to demonstrate their level of quality as opera singers. We need to give them opportunity to be part of an opera company. MLO has been created for that and so far we are proud of the results. A long list of new singers have been given the chance to appear for the first time in a fully staged opera at MLO. Most of them are now performing in many of the major opera houses around the world including the Metropolitan Opera House.
